Dr. Wendy Miller is a clinician - a DC licensed professional counselor, a board certified art therapist, a registered expressive arts therapist and a Ph.D. psychologist trained in health psychology and imagery therapy. She has practiced as an arts based therapist since 1978. Her specialization is with identity issues in health, particularly with
medically ill patients, internationally adoptive families, and persons wanting to reconnect with their own creativity. She has
published on medical illness and the arts as complementary medicine, on
the use of sandtray therapy with internationally adopted children, and
on interdisciplinary and experiential approaches to supervision in
expressive arts therapy as well as on multiculturalism. She is involved
in research on the relationships among the arts, creativity, and
health. She has developed the "Star Model" as a holistic paradigm of
health.
Wendy Miller is a founding member and one of the first elected Executive
Co-Chairs of the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association. She is co-founder of Create Therapy Institute in Kensington, MD, a
program which offers clinical services in arts-based psychotherapy and
trainings for students and professionals in a multi-modal approach to
expressive arts therapy. Her clients explore their creativity through
writing, drawing/painting, assemblage, sculpture, and sand tray.
